Zeidan drove through the forest that night, aiming for the city. As soon as he had finished discussing with Luana, he had thought it best to leave the city as fast as possible.
As he went between the tall trees on each side of the road, only the engine was making sounds as he drove, his mind wandered back to what had ensued between him and Lyne.
After he saw her looking at them from afar, he couldn't tell where the feeling came from but he immediately felt as if he had just hurt a harmless animal and so pushed Luana away immediately.
As she turned away, eyes withholding pain, he ran after her, ignoring Luana's call. He had managed to grab her hand and pull her to a stop.
"Stop it!" She tried yanking her arm away.
"I own you and I have every right to do whatever I want with you." He regretted those words as soon as they left his mouth.
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry? No, you're not sorry and you shouldn't be. You're right. I was just a gift to you and nothing more. I know my place, ok?"
She replied, her face getting red and he could swear he saw her biting her lips to stop her from crying.
But he needed to focus.
"Lyne, I just wanted to be sure of something. I...I have one important question to ask you." He started and although her face was expectant, he just couldn't.
"Don't you tell Wikh about any of our discussions? Please."
Her face was crumpled as if disgusted by what she had just heard.
"Surely, I'm a tattle teller that doesn't know how or when to talk and you're just worried I'll spill everything we've talked about in our closet..."
"No, that's not it..."
"And I'm probably taking bribes from him so I can shut my mouth about what I..."
"You're not getting it right..."
"Well, you're right!" Lyne snapped, eyes wide and on the verge of tears. Her outburst shocked him and he wondered if she had truly told Wikh about the pills issue.
"You're right." She nodded and her voice was shaking.
"I'm a child with literally no voice so yeah, you guessed right about how foolish I am."
"Why are you acting this strange?"
He hated to see her cry and he was praying furiously that she doesn't. He lifted his hand to touch her face but someone held him back.
"Let her be, Zeidan. We have other important things to do." He looked back and saw Luana holding his hand and gazing at Lyne.
As usual, she is always about the affairs of the city.
"You are right." He replied and glanced at Lyne.
"Lyne, I hope you do know that I don't think you're foolish. I was just trying..."
"She knows her place already, sweetheart. Don't try changing what's already been fixed." Luana lifted her fingers as if inspecting them and twitched her lips interestingly.
"Words of a typical attention seeker." Her reply got him below the belt again and he could see the shock on Luana's face.
No one dared face the terror queen but this woman right here is.
"Say that again."
Those words made Lyne shut her mouth and she looked like those words reminded her of something bad and traumatic and there was no doubt about it that she only remembered how Charles had said the same thing to her.
He felt sorry for her instantly and he tried pulling her in but she refused to move.
"You can't keep acting, Zeidan. Stop acting as if you care." She yanked her hand off and walked away.
"Go away, loser. Go away." Luana called after her and he suppressed the urge to slap her mouth shut.

Zeidan sighed as he drove further, his heart heavy as he never got to talk to her again after that incident. Now he is going back to his home in Los Angeles and he has to balance his life between being a vampire and a normal human.
While he was deep in thought, he didn't know when he saw a figure in a long black cloak and boots appear from the speckles of dust in front of his car. He was still speculating what Wikh was doing here when the figure pointed something at him that looked like a gun.
No doubt, since Lyne had told him he has found out about his mischief, he would want to deal with him. But he was wrong as he doesn't know who he is dealing with. He used his speed to turn his car three sixty degrees, pressing on the gas to get a steady balance and this caused a loud noise as the engine whirled.
The gun was shot but it only hit the windscreen and windows.
"How the heck is he faster?" Zeidan wondered.
Soon, the shooting stopped and he looked up only to see that he could not be found again. It was just himself, his car, and his thoughts.
If it was his imagination, how the hell did his car have bullet marks on them. Indeed, Wikh is a potential enemy. He gripped the steering wheel tighter as he turned the car back to the road and kept driving.
Maneuvering his car through the lane left for parking in front of a building that had the word 'Sam Pharmacy' inscribed on it, he checked for the time on his wristwatch.
"12:35 am. Not a bad time to start working." He said to himself and alighted from the car. He looked around and sighted a big trampoline just by the garage next to the pharmacy and he draped it over his damaged car.
"I've got to avoid police problems." Satisfied about what he had just done, he walked into the building.
He was welcomed with the smell of antiseptic and other drugs. Although it was midnight, he could see a pale-skinned lady with dark hair and her head bent over a book by the counter.
"Samantha." He called at the lady who looked at him and her eyes widened with joy as she crossed the county and jumped on him.
They hugged for a while before they separated to exchange pleasantries.
"Is this you, Zeidan? I haven't seen you in forever." She touched his jacket and straightened his rumpled hair which made him grin.
"Doing the big sister job again eh?" Samantha playfully hit his shoulder.
"Come on. You should know I'm always after your welfare." Her face changed into serious.
"So how have you been? And how is vampire city?"
Samantha has been very close to him and he could say that he trusts her so much. Although she is pure human, she has been very good at keeping his secrets and having his back.
"Vampire city is in trouble right now and to be honest, I'm not supposed to come here so you wouldn't be dragged into this mess as well. But I have no choice."
"What do you want me to do for you? You know I'm always here." She moved back to her counter and he removed the bottle of pills from his pocket and dropped it on the laid-out furniture.
"Wow."
"I want you to run some tests on the pills. I want you to tell me where they were gotten and the kind of ailment it works for."
"Hmmm." Samantha sighed thoughtfully as she picked up the bottle.
"Looks like the drugs for rheumatism, but I can't be so sure. There are other drugs with similar features. I'll run a test and also scan the location to see if I can get what pharmacy it was gotten."
"Thank you, sweetheart." He thanked her profusely.
"Also, can I use your car for a while? Mine has some little problems and I wouldn't want to run into trouble. I promise to repay you."
"Come on. You can take my car of course. I parked it down the street. You can just get it there. Give me a second, let me get the keys."
A few moments later, Zeidan was riding the car on Los Angeles road straight to his office. He has some unfinished business to work out.
