Chapter 227 He Takes It to Heart, No Need to Bother Others.
While Jane was preparing breakfast, Justin rang the doorbell to go upstairs. He was now used to waking up at this time without feeling like getting up on the wrong side.
Jane was also used to his visit. As she headed for the kitchen, she said, "The pumpkin porridge will be ready. Breakfast will be served in five minutes."
Justin said, "Uncle Edward let me tell you that he would deal with that matter."
Edward didn't tell Justin what it was, and Justin didn't bother to get involved as long as there was no conflict between Jane and Edward.
Hearing that, Jane turned her head and asked, "When did he tell you that?"
Justin said, "Last night."
Jane's eyes were slightly raised, "He came home yesterday?"
Justin glanced over at her, "Where else could he go?"
Jane thought about what Ken had said half an hour ago. She said with a blank face, "No. I just said casually."
She went into the kitchen with the door of the kitchen open. Justin sat on the living room couch and raised his voice, "Do you care whether Uncle Edward comes home or not at night?"
Jane said without raising her head nor opening her eyes, "All men gossip, including me. I am not a saint."
Justin asked, "Do you want me to scout it out for you?"
"What?"
"Whether Uncle Edward has a crush on someone or not."
Jane said, "To tell you the truth, I hear gossip about Edward over twenty times a day from at least a dozen people. I am better informed than you."
Justin did not care about that, "What do outsiders know? They also say I'm Uncle Edward's illegitimate son."
Jane joked, "Because your uncle is considered a playboy."
Justin said, "Don't talk nonsense if you haven't seen it. Don't pass it on blindly if you're not sure. They're destined to be a loser if they don't understand this basic life philosophy."
Jane couldn't help but sigh as she listened to his identical tone to Edward's, "You talk just like your uncle."
Justin subconsciously said, "Of course, I was brought up by him."
Jane didn't pick up on it because, in a normal state, the next sentence would have to be about his mum and dad. Why wasn't he brought up by his mum and dad, but by Edward?
Every family has a skeleton in the cupboard. Jane went along well with Justin. But it didn't mean she could pry into his privacy. She brought the breakfast and beckoned him to eat, passing the topic naturally.
Two classes in the morning passed. Justin ate lunch at Jane's. Jane had learned how to make pineapple cheesecake. So she made a cake for him to taste. Justin loved pineapple cheesecake. After eating half of the cake, he offered to take the other half with him for the first time.
Jane was generous, "OK."
Justin came home with the cake. Edward had got up. Seeing the bag in his hand, Edward asked him, "What's that?"
Justin said, "Pineapple cheesecake."
Edward said, "I don't like pineapples."
Justin said, "It's not for you. Bad teacher made it for me."
When Edward heard the word "cake," he took it for granted that Jane made it for him, but unexpectedly, it was not for him.
Justin was respectful to his uncle. He did not hesitate to hand over the cake. Edward is a black-hearted one. Though he said he didn't like pineapples, he ate half of the cake when Justin went to the bathroom.
Then he said, "It's not as good as the sesame flavor."
Justin held back his retort. Whatever floated his boat.
Edward ate half a cake. Perhaps because the sugar had converted into energy, he was in a good mood and left the house refreshed.
When he went to the underground garage to get his car, he called Jarman, "Did you find out?"
Jarman said, "I just got some information. Based on where the photos were taken, one in the underground garage and one in the residential building across the basketball court, we checked the information of all car owners and the residents of the entire building and found an overlap--a woman named Audrey Ross."
Edward asked, "Who is she? She knows Jane?"
Jarman said, "I don't think she knows Jane, but I am sure she knows you."
Edward's brow furrowed, "Who is she?"
Jarman said, "She is an internet celebrity and also a Micronet. She is close to Linda. You met her at least four times last year on different occasions. It's normal that you don't know her. I've looked at her picture many times, but I still can't remember what she looks like."
Edward didn't care if she was an internet celebrity or something else. He said seriously, "So what are you waiting for? Check her out."
Jarman explained, "She's having dinner with Linda at Sky Palace."
Edward said, "Are you afraid of going over and being asked to pay for their meal?"
Jarman knew what Edward meant. Well, it was his fault for overthinking. He thought Edward would save face for Linda.
"I'll go now."
Edward said, "Take her back to Moonshadow." He wanted to see who got him in trouble.
Edward hung up the phone and drove straight to Moonshadow. Jarman went to the Restaurant to take Audrey away in front of Linda and a group of people in the private room.
Audrey was still unsure until Jarman said, "Mr. Smith wants you to come with me to Moonshadow."
Audrey didn't know his intention until Jarman said, "Mr. Smith wants to see you at the Moonshadow."
She forced her composure, "What's the matter?"
Jarman said, "You can ask Mr. Smith."
How could she refuse not to go there on the invitation of Mr. Smith? Audrey peeked at Linda secretly, who didn't change her face and took food, "You should bend to Mr. Smith's will."
Audrey could not dawdle too much. When she wanted to take her bag, Jarman was one step quicker and took it in his hand. He said, "Let's go. The car is down there."
Audrey said, "Give me the bag. I'll take it myself."
Jarman said, "Let me help you. You're welcome."
Audrey said, "I need to use the phone, please."
Jarman was expressionless, "You can have the bag, but not the phone."
Hearing this, Audrey's heart sank. She turned back in the middle of her walk, looked at Linda and said, "Linda, I don't want to meet him."
Jarman stood in the doorway, gazing indifferently at Linda. He was good-looking, but he was always expressionless. And his gaze was cold and emotionless, giving others the impression that he was not to be messed with, just like his boss.
Audrey turned to Linda for help. Others at the table also looked at her. Linda was unfazed but surprised, "What are you afraid of?"
Audrey could not tell the truth but held her tongue for a few seconds before saying, "I'm afraid of Edward."
Linda put on a false smile, "He won't eat you alive."
Audrey held on to the back of her chair, not making a sound or moving. Jarman said, "Please hurry up. Mr. Smith is still waiting. He'll get angry if you're late."
It was true. Edward would not only be angry with Audrey but also blame him, for he was useless as it took such a long time for him to bring this woman to Moonshadow. Jarman won't take the blame.
