Chapter 63

Chapter 63
The rain suddenly stopped at some point. The faint chirping of insects was hidden in the sound of the rushing wind. The sound was completely inaudible to those who were asleep.
Inside the house.
Vanessa Green was lying on the bed. The thin blanket lying messily on her body. Her long and sweat-drenched hair draped over the white pillowcase.
Half of the back below the shoulders was exposed. The soft light from the chandelier made the red marks on her back particularly visible.
Her eyes were open as she watched the clock on the side of the bed pointing to 2.30 a.m. Her face still flushed.
However, the man beside her hadn't stopped.
Shawn Yeats kissed her back. She felt a tingling sensation of electricity as he kissed her back.
The air in the large room was thin.
Vanessa Green closed her eyes. Her brow was trembling slightly. She smelt ambiguity with every breath.
"No more ......" she shrank back towards the bed and pushed Shawn Yeats away with her hands, "I have to work tomorrow."
Shawn Yeats's kiss stopped at the back of her neck. He brushed her hair away from her face with his hand. Then he stood up.
"Go take a shower and rest."
But Vanessa Green didn't move.
It was only when she felt Shawn Yeats's hand touch her leg and try to pick her up that she sat up reflexively.
Then she haphazardly put on her robe, pushed him away with her head down and got out of bed.
"I'll go and wash myself, don't bother."
The feeling of being an old married couple that had somehow grown over the past few days collapsed on this night.
The moment Vanessa Green stepped into the bathroom and closed the door, the last of her strength was gone. Her back was pressed against the wall, and her back and legs were slowly sliding down.
On the opposite side of the wall was a block of marble that looked like a mirror in the bright bathroom light.
Vanessa Green looked at her own figure reflected on the wall, and the scene she had just seen came back to her mind again.
She took a deep breath. She lifted her hand and saw a ring of red at her wrist and her breath became burning again.
She just couldn't help herself from thinking back to those scenes. She felt like she was going crazy. She pressed the palm of her hand against the wall to fade away the rolling sensation with a cool touch.
It turned out that Shawn Yeats's words was right.
But what he was said wasn't entirely objective either.
--- It wasn't sitting on his lap that made her feel something.
The kisses, the caresses, even just the lingering touch on her neck, were like bombs that ignited at the slightest point.
Even more incredible.
Vanessa Green found herself doing the same.
And she felt that she would never be able to accept the name 'baby' again.
Now she felt oxygen deprived when she remembered the way Shawn Yeats had called her so in bed and what had happened afterwards.
Every time he called her that, the more she was bound to take.
Yet she was addicted to the extreme tenderness with which he called her so.
He knew she would be under his spell and willingly comply with his demands without limit.
---
She was exhausted. Vanessa Green simply rinsed off her body and walked out.
When she returned to the bedroom, she looked around. But Shawn Yeats was not there.
A living person wouldn't disappear in the house, so she didn't care. It was only when she sat down on the edge of the bed and saw the things of the rubbish bin that her emotions were roused again.
But no matter how ashamed she was, she had to clean it up. Otherwise the nanny who was doing the housekeeping would come and see it tomorrow. And it would make her even more embarrassed.
When Shawn Yeats came in, he saw Vanessa Green squatting by the rubbish bin and tidying things up.
He came up behind her wordlessly.
"I'll get it."
Vanessa Green's hands shook when she heard that. She sped up and immediately tied the bag up. After getting up, she kicked it away with her foot.
Then she pretended to be calm and looked up to ask him, "When did you buy it?"
Shawn Yeats inclined his head and looked away. It seemed that he was trying to recall for a moment before saying, "I don't remember."
Vanessa Green thought he might have been embarrassed, though the possibility was slim. "Then you are really saving up for a rainy day."
Shawn Yeats's gaze fell on her eyes and he nodded, "Well, I thought about you for a long time."
"......"
This sounded a bit erotic. As long as she didn't deliberately think to what had just happened, it was a compliment.
So, Vanessa Green's chin lifted even higher, "So you're lusting after me?"
Shawn Yeats said, "I thought I'd just given you the answer by the way I acted."
"......"
Vanessa Green's jaw retracted.
She knew it was impossible for this man to be embarrassed when he was alone.
To hide the fact that she was a little embarrassed, she reached out and pushed a hand towards Shawn Yeats's chest. Instead, she was grabbed by his hand and pulled into his arms.
When she got close, Vanessa Green actually smelled a faint smell of smoke.
"You went to smoke just now?"
"What's so surprising about that." Shawn Yeats lowered his head and rubbed his chin against her hair. His voice had a teasing feel to it, "Don't you deserve a cigarette?"
Vanessa Green did not expect to hear such a blunt and slightly nasty compliment from Shawn Yeats's mouth.
But at this moment, she felt that the tone of his voice was as sexy as when he called her "baby".
---
The latter part of this night was a rare slumber for Vanessa Green for many days.
In those days, the two had not broken through the last part of intimacy. Vanessa Green had always been a little restrained when she fell asleep in his arms.
But now, when her sleepiness came on fiercely, she did not forget to hug him.
In the last seconds before her consciousness faded, she vaguely remembered that she seemed to be latching on to Shawn Yeats like an octopus.
In such a situation, the two of them managed to get up on time the next day.
At dawn, Shawn Yeats stood in the cloakroom straightening his clothes. He looked serious and well-dressed again.
Vanessa Green was half leaning against the table, watching him with an air of admiration as he slowly and methodically tied his tie and put on his watch.
When he turned around, Vanessa Green suddenly smiled and opened her arms towards him.
Probably because he had seen such a look too much last night, Shawn Yeats no longer needed to guess her intentions and went to her, hugged her and kissed her forehead.
Vanessa Green smiled with satisfaction. Then she turned around and walked out with the same serious look as he did.
Because she knew that as soon as she left this room, there were two pairs of eyes watching outside, the aunt who made breakfast and the driver who was waiting to pick up and drop off. The man was bound to change his face in a second and act as if they only slept in the same bed at night but they didn't know each other very well.
Surely, when Shawn Yeats sat down at the table, he was already a different person than he had been during the night.
After a few minutes, Vanessa Green couldn't stand the silence and looked at him several times, but he didn't have any intention to talk.
So Vanessa Green had to look her phone.
She took out her mobile phone and saw several people in the group chat discussing something, so she casually asked, "I just saw that colleagues in the group chat said that Mingyu had stopped lending to Sunshine Properties, why?"
Shawn Yeats said, "Strict lending and rational use of funds are the focus of the bank's risk control. Stop lending to Sunshine Properties is a necessary measure for the bank to avoid financial risks, do you have any opinion?"
Vanessa Green, "......"

She didn't have any opinion, she just wanted to casually listen to the gossip.
Those who didn't know would have thought they'd spent last night lying in bed discussing risk control measures for the bank.
"Nothing."
"Breakfast, then."
---
Thanks to his words at the dinner table. When Vanessa Green arrived at the office, no one would think she looked tired because she was half-exhausted in bed, but they would only guess which big shot she had worked late on her interview outline again.
Everyone would have had to praise her for working so hard at home with a broken finger.
When she returned to work after seven days, colleagues who were not busy with their work came over to ask Vanessa Green about her injury. It wasn't until the editor-in-chief arrived that the office area was completely put into working order.
"Ha, let me tell you something."
Tracy Jones carried the juice, stirred the swivel chair and moved over, whispering, "When I entered the lift this morning, I heard Sarah Short and the girls say that Lily Scott will be transferred to the Ningzhou branch in June."
"I know." Vanessa Green nodded, "The editor-in-chief told me about it after I got home from the office that day."
"It's really because of that incident."
Tracy Jones looked at Vanessa Green incredulously.
Up to now, the incident that Lily Scott had privately rumored had not spread in the company. Tracy Jones thought it was because the matter was still unresolved and the leaders were still deliberating, but she didn't expect the result to have given long ago.
It was actually understandable that the leaders didn't say anything. Because they wanted the company to have less irrelevant gossip, and to save face for the employees.
"You know, she told someone that it was because she wanted to change places, the work pressure in Lantrie was too much. That's why she wanted to transfer to the branch." Tracy Jones said and rolled her eyes, "If I were you, I'd tell her off to my boyfriend. I think she still wants to leave with dignity."
"That won't be necessary." Vanessa Green served her coffee and clinked her cup with the juice in Tracy Jones's hand, "I'm already satisfied with this treatment, and you think my boyfriend is a triad member, right? He has nothing to do with our company. Do we have to find someone to beat her?"
Tracy Jones laughed and said, twisting the corner of his mouth, "What's the difference between your boyfriend's background and a gangster a hundred years ago?"
That was the end of the morning's laziness, and the two of them went back to work.
On Monday, the coffee was consumed a little more. Most people were still carrying the sleepiness of the weekend, and with physical sleepiness. The whole office building was not as vibrant as usual.
Until 5 p.m.
The sun was setting, the twilight was murky. And the sound of pounding the keyboard rose and fell, sounding particularly silent.
A young girl, who was usually a bit stammering, took her mobile phone and said "Oops!" Then the mobile phone of the people in the finance team rang one after another.
Vanessa Green also received the messages. And by the time she had finished reading the messages, Tracy Jones was already casting a gaze at her thirsty for gossip.
The messages everyone received were the same. All messages were coming from four or five photos posted by an ordinary person on Instagram.
The photos showed Rachel Taylor embracing a middle-aged man in a hospital.
It was normal for news of such a high profile and secretive singer to instantly ignite entertainment buzz. But what really shocked the entire finance team was the middle aged man in the photos.
Vanessa Green stared at the photos, looking at them over and over again. Her eyes were going from disbelief to shock to pain. She was unable to speak.
How, how could it be Edward Yost?
The photos showed that the two of them was in a relationship. One of the photos was of Edward Yost with his arm around Rachel Taylor and his hand on her waist.
She and Tracy Jones looked at each other for a moment, confirming this information from her eyes. She suddenly came back to her senses and ran to the balcony, holding her phones.
It took a while for her to call Shawn Yeats.
"Where are you?"
Vanessa Green's voice trembled slightly. And before she could ask him if he had seen the news on the internet, she heard him say, "I'm at the hospital, Sophia Yost had a car accident."
"Huh?! What?"
It was just on blast from the past after another and Vanessa Green exclaimed, "How did she get into a car accident? Where is she? How does she feel now?"
"It's not something really serious."
Shawn Yeats said, "It's not serious."
But Vanessa Green couldn't predict whether the calmness in his tone was natural or real, "Where the hospital is in?"
"Lantrie People's Hospital."
"I'll be there."
Vanessa Green didn't even take her bag before she hurried downstairs and got into a taxi.
Once she got in the car, she was still as anxious as an ant on a hot pot.
Because Sophia Yost had a car accident and the man embracing Rachel Taylor in the photo was Sophia Yost's father, the husband of Shawn Yeats's sister.
While others were concerned about how much this scandal of Edward Yost would affect Mingyu's stock price when it was exposed, Vanessa Green was only concerned about whether Shawn Yeats would take a hit.
After all, that time when he mentioned his sister, Shawn Yeats laughed happily.
Twenty minutes later, the car pulled up in front of the hospital.
Vanessa Green hurriedly got out of the car, running furiously in her high heels. And by the time she reached the third floor of building B, she was already sweating.
Shawn Yeats was standing on the passage waiting for her.
Vanessa Green ran towards him, gasping for breath as she asked, "Is she going to be all right?"
"It's okay, she just fainted from shock. The doctor has checked and it's just a superficial injury."
Shawn Yeats gestured for her to look into the ward.
In the ward, Sophia Yost was lying on the bed talking to the nurse.
Vanessa Green finally let out a sigh of relief.
Shawn Yeats, "I told you she was fine, why are you in such a hurry to come over."
Vanessa Green heard and wanted to glare at him.
Did he think everyone was as calm as he was when things happened, as if they had no emotions?
But when she thought of something else, she didn't want to glare at him.
"By the way, have you seen the news?"
Vanessa Green thought to herself that he must have gotten the news faster than she did, so she didn't put it bluntly, "It's that Edward Yost was photographed."
"With Rachel Taylor?"
Shawn Yeats was surprisingly calm, "I saw it."
Vanessa Green, "......?"
"Even this kind of thing you faced so calmly?"
Shawn Yeats pulled her a little closer to himself. His eyes was crossing over to her. And after a glance, he whispered.
Maybe that was how people were after they had been hit.
Vanessa Green could quite understand Shawn Yeats's feigned strength.
She lowered her head, but her heart was also full of mixed feelings.
Shawn Yeats held her shoulders and tried to make her lift her head up, "What's wrong with you?"
Vanessa Green said, "I feel the same with you, it's hard for me too."
Shawn Yeats said, "Why?"
Vanessa Green still shocked that her unreachable idol had such a relationship with her, she said as if talking to herself, "I didn't think that the closest I ever got to my idol was when she did something like this with my boyfriend's brother-in-law. How could this happen ...... how could it be Edward Yost and Rachel Taylor?"
"Everyone says she's virtuous, but it turns out she did something like this."
"And she says she'll always sing the praises of love, it is ridiculous."
"Doesn't it hurt her face?"
Shawn Yeats, "......"
He raised his head, looked at the woman behind Vanessa Green and called out "Sister" softly.
