Chapter 35 Too Late

|Grey|
Kavin talked to me about the situation on our way to my pack. He very well knew what I was up to. He also knew how hard it would be for me to convince my parents about Everleigh. But one way or another, I knew I had to do the right thing. Even if it took longer, I was determined to do it.
Going far from the Blue Crystal Pack made my body shudder at the thought of leaving her in that dangerous place. It felt really strange to have her far from me after spending both weeks close to her. But sometimes, good things take time, not my words but Kavin's.
"...you'll first have to convince them that it's been seven years since you've been searching for your mate. Then show the situation and bring her to the pack." he ended his explanation.
"I was thinking... I think it would be better to talk with mom and dad before everything. Because I still haven't got the power to rule my whole pack, no one will listen to me at the moment... I mean, the elders, damn, I hate them so much now. However, I should have those two folks by my side." I said.
"Yep. Good choice."
The ride back to my pack took us two hours, even with the vehicles and with no stopping. However, when we arrived, I got welcomed by my parents, waiting for me by the entrance with big smiles on their faces. They looked as if I was returning home after years. The vehicle came to a halt, and I got down.
"Oh my~ My handsome son is back!" mom squealed and ran toward me. Then she pulled me for a hug. I had to bend to hug her small frame. "When did you grow long?" she teased.
I groaned and gently pushed her away.
"Stop teasing me, mom."
"I don't have a word now, do I?" dad joined in. "I am so proud you patiently had the visit. How'd it go?" he asked.
We walked inside together. I started telling them about how the occasion went and this and that. I successfully skipped the parts of Everleigh under the watchful eyes of Kavin. I didn't forget to tell them about the plans made by the Blue Crystal Pack, though. Dad was surprised by the changes done there.
"Let's have tea, okay?" mom asked me. I gave her a thumbs up, so she walked into the kitchen. Dad asked me to join him in the back garden, where tables were kept for anyone to have tea whenever they wanted. The wide doorway welcomed us to the backyard. Because the doors were open, there was a small layer of snow poured into indoors.
A few pack members were already there talking about this and that. The second they saw me, they paid respect to me and welcomed me with a smile.
"Hey, did you guys make the new training teams?" I quickly asked from a beta.
"Yes, alpha. But it's a total mess! I prefer the ones you picked." she said with a laugh.
"No, get everyone together and make the teams. I will join today's training." I told her. She gave me an okay with her hand and went back to talking with her friends.
I sat on a chair, and dad sat in front of me not long after. Mom joined us with a tray of tea and cookies.
"Now give me the juicy news," she said as she prepared the tea, taking three cups and pouring hot water. "Anyone wants milk tea?" she asked in an excited voice. It was obvious that she was happy to have me with her. The way her face stretched to a big smile was evidence of her happiness.
"Oh, I want. Extra sugar, please." dad said.
"I'll have normal tea," I said.
"You can't have milk tea, old man." mom teased dad and gave him only a normal tea with a little bit of sugar. I couldn't help but laugh at their cute behaviour. Recently mom has started paying extra attention to his health because of the constant chest pains he got.
"Juicy news. Come on." mom urged me.
"Uhm... oh, they are going to have Ren, the next in line as their new alpha, as soon as he gets his mate. Plus, they are having rogue problems just like us. And I think it increased by the time I was there. Those rogues are aiming for me. But it went pretty well." I said. As soon as I was done, I got a slap on my hand.

"And you didn't inform us?" mom asked with a frown.
"Don't baby him, Amanda. He can get through those small cases. Plus, he won't be the new alpha if he's a baby. I didn't give him the throne for nothing." dad said.
"He's still small for me." mom hissed at him.
I facepalmed seeing their usual arguments. But I would be lying if I said I didn't miss it. Everyone in the pack knew about their way of showing love to each other.
"However." I started, wanting to come to the key point. "I have a very important thing to tell you two," I said, watching their expressions.
"What is it?" mom asked, already looking curious.
"We have a more important thing to talk to you about." dad quickly added.
"No, let him say his thing. We can talk about this sometime later." mom argued.
"We can't postpone this! It's been seven years. What if we don't get a chance??" dad asked her back.
"Hold on. What is it about?" I finally asked.
Mom sighed and asked dad to tell me about it cause she didn't want to. Their hesitation made me more curious. However, dad slowly started after clearing his throat.
"I think it's about time you take a step ahead. We got a letter from the elders. A mateless beta was born to the 'Midnight Pack'. She's the daughter of the alpha, twenty years old, so they let us know about it... since, you know..." he said. Mom giggled at dad's words. They looked happy about the case.
But I clearly wasn't.
I was frowning at every detail they said. If it were another time, I would've said okay and maybe meet with her for a blind date or something, but now... no, I didn't want anyone as my mate but Everleigh.
And looking at my parents once, twice, I felt like I was too late. They looked as if they had already planned everything ahead of my life. And they seemed so happy about the mateless girl.
Just then, my parents got called by the pack's doctor to do a medical check-up on dad. So they left after saying how I could have all the world's time and carefully think about the deal. They also said not to take long because the mateless girl will look for someone else. And I felt stuck with their words.
Once they were gone, Kavin joined me with an empty cup. He sat where dad was before and started making himself a coffee without a word.
"Silent treatment now, huh?" I asked him.
"You didn't tell them, did you? When are you going to tell them?" he scolded me. "Don't drag this deal, alpha. The sooner, the better."
"It's... already late," I said.
"What do you mean? The girl has a mate???" he asked, squinting his eyes at me.
"Even that could happen. But that's not it... mom and dad have found a mateless girl for me.." I slowly said. "And they just asked me to take my time and think about it."
"Oh god... what did you say?"
"I didn't say anything. I was about to tell them about Everleigh, though it's too soon, thinking I came just now. And when they told me about that mateless girl, I lost it! I mean, I think everyone in the pack already knows about it, and they won't buy it if I say I want another girl as my mate, who's only eighteen years old and who might have her mate somewhere waiting for her..." I said.
"You are taking all these decisions as an alpha, Grey. I think you should look at this as a lover, not as someone-"
"I don't have time for that! Don't you see! I could be dragging this case for days, but others don't see it that way. They want quick decisions, and quick answers! And I have so many responsibilities, not even time to sit back and think about this! I am their alpha, and I can't be irresponsible and stubborn. What would they think of me??"
"Calm down first... Tomorrow! Talk with the initial alpha and Luna about this. Tell them about your girl too. They will know what the best for you is."
"I can't believe the alpha of the Dark Moon Pack can't even take a small decision like this.."
And Everleigh, she might be waiting for me to make a decision and come get her... Luckily, I left my contact number with her, so she had a way to communicate with me if anything went wrong there.
