Chapter 36 Parent Approval

|Grey|
Early in the morning, I was more than ready to have a conversation with my parents. But on the one hand, I was worried about my father's health condition, so I made sure my words won't hurt him. I was only planning to talk with them about the whole mate thing, but I knew he could get very emotional when it comes to the problems with my mate.
The dining hall was filled with pack members by the time I went in. As usual, everyone was walking around with trays in their hands, some playing with their food or yelling at each other about the previous night's football match. Some were even half asleep. Most bid good morning to me as I entered the hall. I walked to my usual table, where mom was already seated with a frown.
"Good morning, mom. What happened with your mood?" I asked.
"I am waiting for the old man to come with my breakfast," she said.
"Oh, leave dad alone for a second, will you?" I teased.
"No way, he's my personal servant," she said with a wink.
Dad joined us just after she said that. He clueless sat next to mom and pushed some food to her. And another tray of food came in front of me, and it was Kavin who got it for me as usual. I gave him a hello, and after greeting me back, he joined another table leaving us to have a conversation about the whole mess.
"What were you talking about?" dad asked us, and both mom and I replied to him with a 'nothing' in unison which made him look at us even suspiciously.
We were halfway through our breakfast when dad broke the little tension between us.
"So, son, what was that big thing you wanted to talk about?" he asked.
I was waiting for him to ask the exact question. But when he suddenly asked that question, it left me blank. So I looked down at my food for a second. The morning pancakes looked delightfully fresh on my plate, and the aroma of honey made them even more delicious. I kept my fork aside on the table and looked at both mom and dad.
"I- It's actually about my mate thing... I don't like to have that unknown girl as my mate." I straightforwardly said.
"She won't be unknown if you get to know her son. We will set a few dates for you, get to know each other, and everything will be smooth." mom said, adding, "Later, you two will know each other very well and maybe take her in as your Luna."
"That's not it. I don't want it," I mumbled.
It was silent for a second.
"You have found someone, haven't you?" dad suddenly asked, raising his voice.
There was another pregnant silence at our table. No one spoke but listened to the other pack member's conversations while waiting for someone to speak first. And I decided to answer him with a silent answer.
I nodded.
Then I jabbed at the pancake with my fork that delicately cut through and got a small particle of it. Without another word, I started savouring the food.
"Who is it?" mom whispered as if another outsider would hear our conversation. I looked at dad for a second. He was paying extra attention to his toast with a frown. He had that expression that he always had whenever he disagreed with something. So I thought of trying my best to bend him toward my idea. Whatever it takes.

"She's an omega in the Blue Crystal Pack. We met by accident-" I started, but he cut me off.
"You can't get an omega from that pack as your mate." he quickly said even before he could stop himself. When he realised what he had said, he quickly looked away.
"Dad... you knew?" I asked. He didn't reply. I already got the answer from his silence. "You knew how omegas live in that pack, but you never tried to make it, right?" I asked again.
"It's none of our business, son. Every pack has its own identity, and its own rules made by the pack's alpha. And other packs can't poke into their businesses just because it isn't correct. Sometimes ignorance is the best answer." he explained.
"They get mistreated, and it's just because of their ranks. How is it not something big to you?? But it's something big for me." I carefully picked my words and said.
"Hey, don't argue with your father, honey. He's right on the one hand, but I won't take his side... you know, there's an issue here." mom pointed out.
"What is it now?" I asked.
"It's that... I feel sorry about them, too, but you are this pack's alpha. You can't have... someone like that as your mate.. and before you go on about this, we will give you the full freedom to reject the one we got for you, but you can't have that omega as your mate." she said and; "You have three roles here, as a son, as a lover and as the alpha of this pack. You should think in all three ways before taking a decision. Come talk to us again after a few days' time," finalised the case.
Dad quickly stood up and left the place to be soon followed by mom. I sat there with my hands clenched into fists. And I knew I had to release my anger before it went out of control.
So I left the rest of my food untouched and walked out of the dining hall under everyone's watchful eyes. It was obvious we had an argument cause we all left. But I couldn't care less about it at the moment.
"Alpha, wait." Kavin followed me from behind. "Wait, wait. There-" he started panting as he caught up with me. "Stop."
"What is it?!" I snapped at him.
"You have a pack meeting scheduled in the evening. It's an urgent one. So you have to go through the problems you will have to talk about there. There are some big issues that are left unsolved, and everyone will be expecting answers this evening. Like, big, big issues." he said.
I took a deep breath and clenched my hands into fists. I felt as if all the bones in my hands would pop out, so I quickly punched at the nearest wall I could reach. Kavin looked at me without an expression.
As I withdrew my hand, there was a small dent on the wall, which also had a stain of blood. My knuckles started burning from the impact.
"Yeah, yeah, the only thing left to do is to break a wall." he deadpanned. "Let's go through the problems before everything gets out of hand. Don't try to rush it. We can deal step by step."
I didn't reply since I was pissed. I just- wanted to strangle someone to death. I wanted a release. But my beta had other ideas... damn it.
"Also, if you will listen to me, I have a little solution to your problem as well," he said. "Only if you allow me to speak."
Well, that got my attention.
"Speak," I growled.
"No."
". . ."
"After the meeting, I will," he said with a wink.
