Chapter 44 Best Friend's Betrayal

|Every|
After the conversation with Jane, I walked out of her room. I felt pain sparking in my body like electricity with every step I took. It started from my toes and went up to my lower abdomen. And when I lifted my legs to go further, it stretched the wounds giving me so much pain.
I walked close to the walls so I won't trip or fall on my own feet. I made sure to hang my head low and walk unseen to any pack members. But it was daytime, so everyone was around. Though I scooted like a burglar, many had their eyes fixated on me to be unseen. Did the news go around that fast? Oh, yeah, I was used to hearing new information about all my pack members from Fah. So it might've been.
Using the stairs, I went downstairs slowly like a snail, afraid my wounds would stretch open. But by the time I arrived at the kitchen, I saw bloodstains on my pants. Yep, the wounds were open again. I ignored the pain and went inside. Everyone's attention was on me. As usual, Nanny ran to me with a concerned look on her face.
"Oh my god, you are finally here!" she squealed and squished me into a hug but released me when I winced in pain. "I am sorry, I am just excited to have you back," she whispered breathily. Then she lightly hugged me again.
I couldn't help but have a smile on my lips at the way she cared about me. And when at times like that, when I felt comfort from someone, it always gave me somersaults inside me. I felt loved.
After Nanny broke the hug, I looked around the kitchen for Fah, but she was nowhere to be seen. Knowing well that I was looking for her, Nanny spoke;
"She's downstairs," she said.
I quickly nodded and made myself downstairs to the basement as slowly as possible. I was finally down in the basement, and I met with the usual dark corridor. I walked further, looking for her in every room but stopped when I heard voices coming through the laundry room.
I blended with the shadow so I could go past unseen, but a familiar voice made me stop. It was Fah, and she was talking with some guy. So I decided to stand there and wait for her. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I could hear everything they were talking about. At first, I didn't mind thinking. Hopefully, it won't be any personal conversation.
But with every word I heard, it made me stay still, rooted to the floor.
"Why can't you accept me now?" I heard Fah's voice. She sounded desperate and pleading.
"I just can't. I already have a girlfriend, and I love her, not you. I told you already, don't ask me about this again and again." the unfamiliar guy said.
His words puzzled me. I never knew Fah had someone she liked. She never told me about it.
"But I am your mate! You can't do that!! I know you are younger than me, you just turned eighteen, but we can work this out. The age gap won't matter if we get to know each other." she said.
"I can't do that. I don't like older people. You are older than me. Most of all, you are an omega. You are used by many people, and that is just disgusting. Sick." the guy spat out.
I silently gasped, listening to that guy's venomous words. I felt a sudden pang in my chest, and I felt hurt seeing my best friend getting rejected by her mate. I just wanted to run and give her a loving hug and let her know that she had all my love.
"Then did you just trick me?" Fah whispered.

"Of course I did. I know omegas are so naive, just like your friend who thought that alpha would get her out of this pack. There's no way you guys will have a good future, you are born to serve us, and nothing can change it!" he growled.
"What the hell are you talking about?! You made me sneak out from the basement and collect information about Everleigh. Get evidence. Then you wanted me to tell everyone what I saw!!! I freaking betrayed my only friend because you said you would accept me as your mate! I had to see her getting hurt because of me!" she yelled.
Unknown tears trickled down my eyes.
The new information felt like arrows dipped in acid, piercing my heart.
She continued with her words;
"And I believed every word you said! I went behind my best friend and ruined her whole life! You didn't see how much she suffered. You have no idea how much alpha hit her and punched her. Now she even has a whole wounded body! She suffered for days without food and water, and it's all because of the promise you gave to me! I freaking trusted you! You promised you would accept me if I did that!!"
I saw her launch toward the guy from the corner of my eyes and grab him from his collar. Then she started shaking him while crying, but that guy just stared at her with a blank expression. I closed my mouth with both my hands as I watched what happened next.
The guy pushed her away from him and punched her in the face. She basically flew across the room and fell on the floor. With her head hanging low, I heard her painful sobs, but I remained frozen, not knowing what to do.
"It's bold of you to think that I will like someone like you. Someone who's ready to sell their friends just like that, someone as weak and disgusting as you. I, Axel Wyatt, reject you, Faidah as my mate."
And then he was gone.
I watched with a broken heart as Fah continued crying on the ground. I didn't know how to react, whether to go and give her a comforting hug or leave her there in agonising pain. Deep down, I knew she betrayed me. She sold me the second her mate asked her to do so.
But with the memories we built up all this time, I couldn't bring myself to hate her. She was the only person who cared for me and... I couldn't even imagine how she felt when her mate asked her to betray me.
So I walked towards her keeping small strides.
I knelt down next to her and pulled her into a comforting hug. She tightly hugged me. Though it hurt my wounds, I didn't mind. I knew her heart was hurting more than my wounds did. She got rejected by her mate, and it was causing her both physical and mental pain.
She started crying aloud in my embrace. I pat her back, wishing I had my voice to tell her soothing words to stop her from crying. But it didn't matter. I did my best to give her the comfort she needed with my actions.
And she cried for hours. In the end, we both were exhausted.
"Eve..." she cried out. "I am so sorry! I didn't mean to-"
I pressed a finger to her lips.
'Hey, I forgive you.' I thought though she could not hear me.
But I knew my expressions gave her the message. She hugged me again and started crying aloud.
And suddenly, there was a gush of feelings in my heart. I couldn't say if it were happiness or sadness, but on the one hand, I felt a bit glad that Grey loved me. And I was sure that as the sun rose from the east, he would come back for me.
He might not... be my mate, but that didn't matter to me.
We loved each other.
And that was the only thing that mattered.
