Chapter 45 Familiar Voice

 |Every|

The day after all the shocking incidents, I woke up early in the morning with a throbbing headache. I twisted and turned on my bed to make it better, but it only got worse. So I quickly sat on my bed, holding my head with my hands. And then I was thinking, was it because I came back to sleep in the basement room? That thought was plain stupid.

I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth so the pain would go away, but it didn't. My eyes went to the person who was sleeping next to my bed. Fah was sleeping like a log, and suddenly it started bothering me. After doing everything, she was comfortably asleep but me... I was still suffering from body pain in and out. Most of all, the betrayal was hurting me.

I might've forgiven her and helped her to sleep by caressing her hair, but deep down, I knew I would never be able to forget what she did. It wouldn't have bothered me if she did that when we first met, but she did it after we became best friends, like soul sisters. And the pain didn't leave my heart.

I got down from my bed and walked past all eight beds to the entrance of the room. But I couldn't go further because a voice spoke from behind.

"Where are you going?" little Rose's small voice asked.

I turned around and forced a smile off my lips. She was awake on her bed with a sleepy face. I extended my hand, asking her to come with me if she wanted. She smiled brightly at me.

"I cannot sleep too. I will come with you." she cheerfully said in a hushed voice and pitter-pattered to me. She held my hand with her tiny fingers and looked at me, indicating that she was ready for the journey.

So we walked through the dark corridor and upstairs. We walked into the kitchen and went past the large doors to the living room hall. Rose's grip on my hand tightened as she fearfully looked around the place. I gave her a comforting smile and walked upstairs using the main staircase.

It was dawn, so we didn't see anyone around, but we heard voices and footsteps here and there. We went to the first floor and walked through the corridors to the end of the hallway, where I looked at the doors for the correct label. Finally, looking for a good minute, we were standing in front of the door that said 'Pack Doctor.'

"Doctor? Are you not well?" Rose asked.

I just smiled at her and knocked on the wooden door. We stood outside for two minutes, and I knocked again. After a few seconds, I heard footsteps, and the door opened. Then our pack doctor Lilac poked her head out. She gasped when she saw me.

"What do you need?" she asked.

I showed her my throbbing hands and my head. She squinted her eyes at me and asked me to wait a minute. Then she walked back inside and came out after a few minutes with her doctor's robe on. I gave her a thankful smile.

Then together, we walked to the patient's room, where she usually treated the wounded or sick. When we were inside, she asked me what my issue was, giving me a piece of paper and a pen. I quickly scribbled;

'Headache and the wounds'

"Headache? It can be just a normal one. Or can you remember if you hit your head anywhere? At least on that day?... No one told me about it. They just informed me about the wounds in your body." she said.

I tried to think of any accidents or on the day alpha hit me. But it only made my headache increase.

"She hit her head on the floor that day." Rose chirped. "When alpha hit her. Boom! She flew and fell on the floor."

"How do you know, sweetheart?" Lilac asked her.

"I heard Fah cry, mumbling about it to herself," she added.

"Okay, let's check you first and see," Lilac told me and asked me to get on the small bed. When I did, she went to the cupboards looking for something. And I was in my thoughts again. I never knew Fah cried thinking about me... but it was no surprise she did.

She never stopped loving me.

Doctor Lilac walked over to me with some pills that I assumed as painkillers. She gave them to me with a glass of water. From the time I put the two pills in my mouth and till I swallowed them, she was watching me with keen eyes. After gulping the water, I made sure to give her a confused look.

"I don't think the hit was bad. You don't show any signs. But do you feel like puking or... like, constant dizziness?" she asked me.

I shook my head.

"Then you don't have to worry. I think this is just another simple headache because of the pain in your body. And little Rose, you are quite an observer yourself, aren't you?" she asked, turning to Rose, who was trying to open a bottle of medicine.

Doctor Lilac talked with the little girl for some time and finally let us go after giving me a bag full of medication because I needed that for all my wounds. After thanking her, Rose and I went outside. By that time, a bit of sunlight had already sprinkled around us. I assumed the time was around 7 am.

We walked past the kitchen, and Rose quickly skipped inside when she caught the aroma of sausages. I tried to stop her knowing she won't get any, but she was long gone.

Smiling at her stubborn behaviour, I went through the kitchen to the backyard after glancing at her, asking for one sausage from the cook, who said a big fat no.

I went out and stretched my numb, wounded hands as I walked towards a bench there. It had rained the night before, so the benches were soaking wet. Ignoring it, I sat on the bench with the small medication bag in my hands.

I opened the bag and took them out to examine what they were. But I had no absolute experience or any idea about medicine. I took every bottle and tube out and then read through the descriptions, warnings, and steps to use. But reading the labels repeatedly, finally, I gave up when I couldn't understand shit.

So I kept the medicine aside and leaned back on the bench. Then I closed my eyes to feel the slow breeze against my face.

The events that occurred the past few days felt too much for my heart to bear. Especially the shock of getting caught, betrayed, and treated by the ones I never thought would treat me... I felt as if all was a long dream I saw, with, episodes, seasons, and even sequels.

And suddenly, I wished I was the director of my own dream so I could take a seat to rewrite every incident. I would like to undo the incident that happened on my eighteenth birthday night also all the bullying. I would keep everything that happened between alpha Grey and me the same but would erase what happened after everything got exposed.

I would rewrite that part where my love story would get accepted by alpha and Luna. Also, where someone other than Fah would expose me to them...

But that was all my imagination. Real life was more bitter and harsher than my ideal world, the ideal world everyone wished for. But not having a perfect life never meant I couldn't make it to a happy ending. I knew that if I tried, I could.

My thoughts got bothered when I heard fast footsteps—and then yelling sounds as well as crashes. I opened my eyes and looked around in confusion. But there wasn't anyone around me.

So I quickly took the bag and put all the bottles, tubes, and cotton inside. I stuffed them in and started walking inside at a quick pace because I knew whenever fights occurred, it was never a good sign. I assumed it was a usual fight between some pack members.

But before I could walk further, I heard a very familiar voice.

I froze on the spot.

My feet rooted to the floor.

My heart started hammering furiously in the rib cage.

And then I felt a cold shiver down my spine.

No way...
