From far away, I could hear the rituals continuing till midnight. Most of the omegas were fast asleep while the alphas and betas were busy with the occasion to strengthen the friendship of the two packs. It was right at midnight when the bond was going to get completed. Till then, it was going to continue.
With my hands hugging my knees, I sat on the bed, listening to the sounds of bells ringing outside. I've never been to any kind of rituals other than when my gender was told out aloud when my wolf came to my body. So I didn't know what exactly was happening there. According to what I heard, there was this legendary mirror that reflected the shining moon's light to the papers of whatever the agreement it was. It says the full moon's light was the blessing of the Moon goddess.
Knowing that I won't be able to be part of the occasion, I had myself tucked under the sheets of my bed. But I couldn't sleep because of the thoughts that kept on running inside me. For one, I was wondering what would happen if the rituals wouldn't go the way they were planned. Also, what would happen the next day? When will alpha Grey leave? And will I be able to see him in the morning...?
One way or another, I decided to see him before he went. Whatever happens. Because I didn't know when I would meet him again. One day, one week, one month, or even years, because time was so cruel. It always acted as if it could solve anything, but the process was slow. And I knew everything was in the hands of Grey.
It was up to him whether he would take me from this hell hole or not. Though I didn't judge the feelings we had for each other, I always had this thought what if he changes his mind when he returns to his pack? And I didn't blame myself for thinking like that.
I didn't know when I fell asleep, but I found myself awake when I saw a ray of sunshine coming through the small window of the basement. I quickly tossed my blanket away and went to the changing room, where everyone's clothes were kept. I removed my pyjamas and started wearing some casual clothes when someone barged inside.
"Seriously? You woke me up early." Fah groaned, leaning on the frame of the door. I ignored her and started combing my hair. "Wait... oh, you are going to meet him?" she asked as if she realised it just now.
I quickly nodded while battling with the laces of my shoes.
"Let me join you," she said.
She quickly joined me and started changing her pyjamas to casual ones. I patiently waited for her to be done but ran upstairs after letting her know when I realised she was too slow. I didn't want to risk missing my one and only chance.
I ran upstairs and met face-to-face with Nanny, who asked me to help her with the breakfast table.
"The visitors will leave before breakfast, so it's a relief day for us. But you can help-" she started speaking, but I ran past her through the kitchen door.
When I was outside, I didn't know where to go. Grey and I always met in the woods, and there was no way he would be there when he was about to leave.
So I paced around the backyard, thinking about where to go. I badly wanted to see him before he went back to his pack. That was when I remembered the other place for us to meet was the storage room!
I quickly ran towards the storage room with a smile playing on my lips. When I was in front of it, I slammed open the door and went inside to be invited by him! I was right. He was thinking the same!
"I knew you would try to find me somewhere," he said as soon as he saw me. I couldn't be happier. First of all, I couldn't believe I was lucky enough to meet him before he left. I thought it would be impossible. Second, he was also waiting for me.
"Come for a hug," he said. I quickly walked over to him, and he wrapped his arms around me. And suddenly, I felt like I was at home. I heard my favourite music, his heart beating inside. And it made me feel like I would miss him more with our last hug.
Alpha Grey broke the hug and cupped my face. I was once again expecting a kiss from him, which I didn't receive. Instead, he started talking.
"No more secret meetings in the woods," he said with a low chuckle. "I might as well solve everything as soon as possible and come get you... How sad. I wish I could tuck you in my suitcase and take you with me."
His words made both of us laugh. And I imagined what it would be like for me to go with him, tucked inside a suitcase. But at least I knew I would meet him soon... but right now, it was only a promise and the flickering hope in my heart.
Alpha Grey's phone started ringing. He took it out from his pocket and frowned at the name. Then he showed me the caller ID. It said 'Kavin', his beta. I looked at him. It was time for him to leave.
"I will have to go now. Kavin said he would call me when we had to leave. Tsk, too bad." he said.
I nodded, looking down at my feet.
"I will be back, okay? This is not a complete goodbye," he said again. I looked up at him as he stroked my hair with his fingers sliding through my hair. "Take care of yourself, and thank your friend for me. She helped us a lot.... also don't wander in the woods again. You won't meet good people like me again," he said with a wink.
I stifled a laugh and rolled my eyes at his flirtatious behaviour.
"I am serious. You are so stubborn. You might as well freeze in the woods. Also, if you face any kind of problem here... I will leave my phone number with you." he said.
Oh... but I didn't have a phone. Not even Fah.. wait, but I could remember. Nanny had one. So I nodded.
Alpha Grey looked around the place. Then like with the sudden realisation, he snaked his hand into his jacket's pocket and took out a pen. Then he asked for my hand.
"I am sorry I'll have to write it here," he said, then scribbled some numbers on my hand.
I nodded again with a bright smile.
And then... he was gone.
I stared at the numbers on my palm with a small smile. At least I had a way to communicate with him if I was lucky enough to do so... and my next mission was to find someone with a phone. Only if that someone would lend me their phone.
I sighed as I went out of the storeroom. I was thinking of becoming friends with someone who had a phone.
I walked a bit, but two of my pack members crossed my path with a frown on their faces.
