Ren's arm draped around my shoulder as we walked into the hall together. As we went in, my eyes caught with the place, which had loud music and light illuminating everywhere. I could see many people dancing on the dancing floor, some kissing each other's faces off, and some even trying to have s*x in front of everyone.
"Hey, chillax. Aren't we here to loosen up ourselves?" Ren patted my back when he saw my stiff look. I gave him a knowing smile and nodded. Ren was moving to the music beside me but stopped after a second. I was really looking forward to having a conversation with him to know the relationship he had with Everleigh.
When he stopped moving, I saw his eyes lock at a specific place. Curiously my eyes followed his. He was looking at the bar at the end of the hall, which looked fancy though it was small. My eyes widened when I saw Everleigh in the bar looking straight at us at the same time.
I didn't know if she was looking at Ren or me. And again, the now-familiar feeling of uneasiness spread inside me. There was another girl next to her, so I wasn't sure if Ren was looking at her or Everleigh. But remembering how they seemed pretty comfortable with each other the night before made me think that he was looking at her :(
I cleared my throat; "Your lover?" and asked.
Ren was caught off guard. He gave me a questioning gaze and asked, "Who?"
"I don't know. You were staring at the bar. Which girl is it?" I chillingly asked while trying my best not to act suspicious or nosy.
"Oh... I just know her. Such a troublemaker." he mumbled.
"The one with a ponytail?" I deliberately asked about the other girl next to Everleigh.
Ren shook his head; "I am talking about the omega. Oh, she doesn't have a scent, but she's an omega. Looks weak, but she's something." I realised he was unconsciously blabbing about her. And the way he said those words didn't help me at that moment either. It was as if he admired her.
I bit the inner side of my left cheek, stopping myself from asking anything further.
"Wanna grab a drink?" Ren asked. He was looking at the bar again.
"Sure," I mumbled.
'Can't an omega and an alpha be friends? Don't get worked up on this.' Blue lazily said in my mind.
'I am not getting worked up.' I hissed at him as we made our way toward the bar. 'I just want to know the deal they have with each other. There's nothing more.' I denied.
'We share the same thoughts, Grey. I don't see why you are still in denial.'
'She's not our mate.' I growled.
Blue stopped talking at the thought of our mate. Yes, it hurt us to even think of them because no one knew how hard it was for me to wait for seven fvcking years for that person.
Most of all, it was the criticism, humiliation, and loneliness I had to bear.
I could remember the times I got rejected as the future alpha in front of all my pack members just because I didn't have a mate. Most of all, I could remember some people talking and making fun of me behind my back. I was even well-known as 'the mateless alpha'.
Keeping that aside, I decided to get away from those depressing thoughts for the night. I've searched all over the world as much as I can for my mate. And maybe, I was mateless. And perhaps I could meet another mateless person.
"Hey, beautiful. Anything special you can make?" Ren leaned on the counter of the bar and started flirting with the girl who was wearing a ponytail. She looked at Ren dumbstruck but leaned on the counter to answer him.
But I didn't fail to notice the smirk that played on his lips as he looked at Everleigh, who was watching us. She quickly tore her eyes away when I caught her staring. Then she quickly started wiping the set of glasses as before.
"What do you want, Grey?" Ren asked, sitting on the swirl chair of the bar as his hand rested on the counter, allowing his muscles to show through the thin material he wore. I sat next to him and thought for a second.
"I want something sweet," I said, trailing my eyes to the girl who caught my attention for the night; "How about having 's*x on the beach'?" I asked.
Everleigh went red at my words and quickly turned her back to me. She was completely shaking for a few seconds. I couldn't help but secretly chuckle at her reaction.
"Coming right away." the other girl winked at Ren and started making the two drinks.
"She's Alice. Silent but really good." Ren whispered to me.
"Really?" I teasingly asked him though I wasn't interested in having that kind of a conversation with him. But I knew who exactly was suited for a conversation like that. I swirled my chair and looked to the dance floor. And sure enough, my assumptions were correct. Kavin was already having his time there, the greatest womaniser of all time. I hoped he could remember what I told him before about getting drunk.
"Your beta is doing great. Do you need any recommendations?" Ren asked with a smirk.
Meanwhile, Everleigh came to us, holding a tray that had our drinks.
"No, I am not in the mood." I quickly told aloud so she could hear as well. She silently kept the two glasses in front of us, and my eyes didn't stop waiting for her to reach mine. But surprisingly, she looked preoccupied in her mind.
Ren took his glass and took a sip of it. I, too, took my glass and took a small gulp from the sugary sweet drink. And then Ren moved closer to me.
"Watch and learn," he smirked.
He was spilling his drink on the ground next to him the next thing I knew. I gave him a puzzled look.
"Hey, you. Come and clean this," he called over to Everleigh, who was busy shaking a bottle. Looking over for a second, she quickly took a rug and ran around the counter towards us.
My fingers gripped the glass in anger. I couldn't believe what was happening.
She bent next to Ren and started cleaning the floor while Ren laughed, looking at her. He was so wrong if he wanted me to have fun while watching her clean the floor. Because I wasn't smiling. Instead, I was frowning.
She quickly cleaned the floor and left the place after paying respect to him. I couldn't understand why she had to pay respect to someone as low as Ren. I knew he was the next in line to be the alpha, but he was an arsehole. And arseholes didn't deserve anyone's respect.
"She's like a dog," Ren commented, and I had to bite my tongue to prevent myself from lashing at him.
I thought he would be done after that, but no. He started ordering more drinks, took only a few sips, and started pouring them on the floor. And I completely lost it when he grabbed my drink and spilt it next to me. I had to watch Everleigh clean my spilt drink for the next few minutes.
When she left, I decided it was enough.
"I think I've to go." I sternly said to Ren.
"Why? This was only the start. Let's have more fun." he said.
"Actually, I am not a night person. And I feel a bit tipsy." I lied.
"Okay then, see you tomorrow. We can have another time like this." he patted my back.
No thanks.
I had to stop myself from looking disgusted when his hand touched my back. I was utterly disgusted by his presence.
Before I left the place, I decided to see if Everleigh was still there in the bar. But she wasn't. Releasing a sigh, I thought of going out of the hall before I saw any more dirty tricks of Ren. I didn't want to hate him more than I did at that moment.
It was completely deserted outside when I left the hall. That means almost everyone was partying inside. I walked down the stairs to the guest rooms but stopped when I remembered Everleigh.
Where was she?
Looking around the area again to see if anyone was watching me, I decided to do a quick search for her. Remembering how I mostly saw hear in the backyard or the woods, I walked there using the kitchen door.
I was expecting her to be nowhere and to look for her for hours. But I stopped in my tracks when I heard inaudible sobbing sounds coming from what it looks like a storage room.
